Drinking from the living water
We’re going to read 4 bible texts that are connected with eachother. We will find a beautiful message in studying them.
1 Corinthians 10:1-4
For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was the Messiah.
Yeshua was the rock from which Yahweh’s people were drinking water while they were traveling in the dessert. This was water provided by Yahweh. Why The water comes out of a rock? Why is Yeshua a rock? This are questions I have thought about. A rock is not changing. It’s hard and it’s solid. Jesus is like God. He also doesn’t change and You can count on Him. His promises stands forever. They’re like a rock. A life based on these promises is a life that will endure forever. It will be a life in Yahweh’s Kingdom.
And now we’re going to think about the water that the rock is giving. Or better said the water that Yeshua gives.
In the time that Yeshua was living there was a temple. And every year on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles priests brought bowls of water from the pool of Siloam to the Temple. While they were doing this they sung: Then with joy shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation” That water was poured at the altar as a prayer for rain and for the Holy Spirit. They did this as remembrance of that Yahweh gave their ancestors water out of a rock when they were in the dessert.
It was on this feast Yeshua spoke the words that we are now going to read.
John 7:37-39
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Yeshua was not yet glorified.
With the water of Yeshua we will not be thirsty again in the spirit. To be spiritually thirsty is when we want a relationship with Yahweh. When we want to talk with Yahweh and we want to know Him and we want to please Him.
The Holy Spirit will make it possible for us to communicate with Yahweh and to know what Yahweh wants. The Holy Spirit makes it possible that we’re close with Yahweh. We don’t have to live without Yahweh anymore. We have eternal life. We live in Yahweh’s Kingdom. Our thirst to have a relationship with Yahweh is quenched.
John 4:13-14
Yeshua answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
The Holy Spirit in us will be so strong that it will have effect in the life of other people around us. They become thirsty too and also want to drink from the living water. And it’s our task to guide them and bring them to Yeshua. And to help them to have also a relationship with Yahweh.
Revelation 22:17
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
The Holy Spirit attracts other people. He makes them thirsty and will bring them close to God. And we’re the bride. We invite the thirsty people to come to Yeshua. And we help them to have also a relationship with Yahweh.
This is the promise that is standing as a rock. It is for sure and the promise will always be there. Anyone can drink from Yahweh’s fountain. Anyone who is thirsty for life has abundant water to drink from. And death has no power over those who drink freely from Yahweh’s fountain of life.
