The Living Bread
John 6:28-59
Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Yeshua answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’ ” Yeshua then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” Yeshua said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.” They were saying, “Is not this Yeshua, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?” Yeshua answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.” Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” So Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.” These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
There is much misunderstanding about the Holy Supper. I don’t have all the answers, but I have found some fundamental truths.
John 6:53 says you have life in yourself when you eat Yeshua's flesh and drink Yeshua's blood.
In verse 54 Yeshua even say if you eat His flesh and drink His blood you have eternal life.
If you don’t do this you are dead.
If it’s so important it’s very important to find out what Yeshua means.
Matthew 26:26-29
While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
Matthew 26 is one of the places where Yeshua is explaining what His flesh and blood is. Notice this He is at this particular moment not pointing to the Thora (Law).
He is pointing at bread and wine.
The blood makes it possible that your sins are forgiven. Without sin offering there can't be forgiveness. The offer of Yeshua restored your relationship with Yahweh.
The body is the living bread and is very important to become one with Yeshua as you can see in Leviticus 6.
Leviticus 6:26-27
The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. It shall be eaten in a holy place, in the court of the tent of meeting. Anyone who touches its flesh will become consecrated.
The sin offering was eaten by the priest who did the offering. It made him holy, because everyone and everything who touched the flesh or the blood were consecrated and belong to Yahweh. Yeshua is our high priest. And Yeshua is the Lamb that is offered for our sins. His dead on the cross was that offering for our sins. So He, as Priest, must eat the flesh of the offering. We eat the flesh of the offering, because we represent His body. When we eat from His offering we get consecrated (Holy) and belong from that moment to Yahweh. And we become part of His body.
The blood empowered the new covenant.
When we drink his blood we become part of the new covenant. The new convenant is the only way to have a life without sin.
This new covenant is a marriage covenant. And maybe you know already that the marriage is equal on the relationship from Yahweh with his people. (In another study I will tell more about the new convenant.)
With a wedding convenant the bride is drinking out of the groom's cup the red wine that the groom brought. If she does that she says yes to the marriage and will become one with the bridegroom. Yeshua is also our bridegroom. When we drink the blood of Jesus, we say yes to the wedding with Jesus and we will become one with Him. We are His bride when we drink of his blood and waiting for Him to be taken to our wedding. We are already from Him.
Yeshua is telling us that you have to do this else we have no eternal life. It’s a command of Yeshua. And a request of love for his bride.
Acts 2:46
Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart.
If you do it one time a year with Passover, you do it as obeying the law of Yahweh. When you do this everyday like the first Christians, you do this out of love for Yahweh and Yeshua.
We pray over the unleavened bread and the wine. We ask to make it for us the body and the blood of Yeshua. The first time with the prayer that we become part of the new covenant. Later we do it as confirmation that we are a part of the new covenant and that we're willing to stay like that.
Be careful make sure that you have no sins between Yahweh and you. Make sure that you ask forgiveness for your sins and ask forgiveness from the person you sin against. Because the blood of Yeshua gives life when you’re part of His body. But it brings dead when you aren’t part of His body. Unforgiven sins make it impossible to become a part of the body of Yeshua.
