Yeshua, the Lion
John 1:35-36
Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Yeshua as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of Yahweh!”
John, the baptist tells everyone that Yeshua is the Lamb of Yahweh. We are now going to find out why Yeshua is compared with a lamb.
In the days that Yeshua was born here on earth Yahweh’s people, the Jews, had to offer a lamb to get forgiveness from Yahweh. They knew that sinners were punished. They didn’t want the punishment, so they offered a lamb instead. This way they wouldn’t be punished for their sin.
Peter 1:18-19
For you know that you were not redeemed from your useless ,spiritually unproductive, way of life inherited by tradition from your forefathers with perishable things like silver and gold, but you were actually purchased with precious blood, like that of a sacrificial lamb unblemished and spotless, the priceless blood of the Messiah.
We are saved from the consequences of our sins because of the offer of Yeshua. Nothing was good enough to get rid of the curses for our sins, apart from Yeshua’s offer. Yeshua was the only one without sins. He was perfect. Like the lamb that was offered in the temple for the sins of the Jewish people. In Numbers 6 we read about the lamb that was offered by the priest in the temple.
Numbers 6:14, 16
He shall present his offering to Yahweh, the Lord: one male lamb a year old without defect for a burnt offering and one female lamb, a year old without defect for a sin offering and one ram without defect for a peace offering, Then the priest shall present them before the Lord and shall offer his sin offering and his burnt offering.
You see, the offering lambs were without defect, like Yeshua was without defect. Like the lambs had to die for the sins of men. Yeshua died for the sins of men. The biggest difference between the lambs and Yeshua was that Yeshua was only 1 time offered for all the sins of us. While the lamb was only sufficient for 1 sin.
Hebrews 10:10-13
By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Yeshua the Messiah once for all. Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of Yahweh, waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.
Now you must not think that Yeshua was burnt on an alter like the lambs. His offer is made, when He was punished with the whip and when He was crucified. The most cruel way to die. Yeshua took the punishment that we deserved. We were guilty and Yeshua said: I want to be punished in their place. So they get grace and are free to go and live their lifes.
Acts 5:30
Yahweh, the God of our fathers raised up Yeshua, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.
Here we not only read that Yeshua died on the cross, but also that He got his life back from Yahweh his Father. Yeshua is alive and is with his Father right now. But one day He will come back and then He will be our King. And we will live in his kingdom forever.
