Baptism

Today we’re going to learn everything what we have to know about baptism. It seems there’s not so much to say about it. But in reality it is a subject that needs much explanation.

We start with:

Mark 16:16 ‬

He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Belief saves. But to be baptized is an act of belief and obedience.

‭Acts 2:38‬‬

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Yeshua the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The people who understood that Yeshua was the Messiah saw how big their sin was that they wanted Yeshua to be crucified and also let crucify their Messiah. They asked: What can we do? The answer was repent and let yourselves be baptized. When you do this you will receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and teacher.

Acts 13:22-24 ‬

After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’ From the descendants of this man, according to promise, Yahweh has brought to Israel a Savior, Yeshua, after John had proclaimed before His coming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

John, the baptist was baptizing the people who repented from their sins. Baptizing with living water is needed to get spiritual clean from the uncleanness of your sins. A river is seen as living water. That’s why John and the apostles baptized people in the river.

‭Luke 3:2-3‬‬

In the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of Yahweh came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness. And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Baptism is needed to get forgiveness from your sins.

‭Luke 3:7-9 ‬‬

So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones Yahweh is able to raise up children to Abraham. Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

When you repent from your sins and let baptize yourself, you have to stop sinning and starting to do the good things instead. Bearing good fruit means that your acts and words having good, positive and sinless results.

‭1 Peter 3:20-21 ‬‬

Who once were disobedient, when the patience of Yahweh kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you ,not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to Yahweh for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah.

The creation on this earth had his own baptism. When Yahweh brought the flood, the bad people and all living creatures died, but the good people and the animals gathered in the boat survived. The old creation died because of the water, but creation got a new start when the water was away. Our baptism is also a dieing from our own sinful life and starting a new sinless life with Yahweh, Yeshua and the Holy Spirit. When we let ourselves baptized, we also ask for a good conscience. This means that we get rid of our feelings of guilt and shame because of our sins.

‭Romans 6:3-4 ‬‬

Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into the Messiah Yeshua have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as the Messiah was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

Paul explains here that we die when we’re baptized into Yeshua. This means that we’re baptized in the name of Yeshua . We die like Yeshua died. We’re buried like Yeshua was buried. Burial is a baptism in death. And like Yeshua resurrect from death, we resurrect from death and start a new life.

John 12:24-26‬‬

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.

The death and burial of Yeshua was necessary. This was the only way to save many people from the wrath of Yahweh. So that they would have eternal life. This was the good fruit of His death. Our death from our old sinful life will bring eternal life. It’s the only way to be saved. You start a new life. In this new life you will serve Yeshua .

‭1 Corinthians 10:1-2 ‬‬

For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.

Yahweh’s people were when they were rescued from the Egyptians crossing the sea. They died from a life in slavery and started a new life in freedom with Yahweh. When we’re baptized we die from the life in slavery of sins and starts a new sinless life with Yahweh in freedom. Yahweh’s people were also baptized in the cloud. This means that they were baptized in the Holy Spirit. The cloud is a symbol for the Holy Spirit. We are also be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

‭Acts 19:2-6‬‬

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Yeshua.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua . And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.

You need to be baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua to receive the Holy Spirit. After the baptism a prayer is spoken out while hands are laid on you. This is a request to Yahweh to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will teach you everything that you need to know to be a real follower of Yeshua. And the Holy Spirit gives you boldness to tell about the good news of Yeshua, the Messiah and Savior and His Kingdom. The Holy Spirit also is the one who made the signs and miracles possible when we’re spreading the good news.

‭Mark 1:9-11 ‬‬

In those days Yeshua came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”

Yeshua Himself is also baptized. When He was baptized, He received too the Holy Spirit. And Yahweh declared that Yeshua was His Son.

‭John 1:29-34 ‬‬

The next day he *saw Yeshua coming to him and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of Yahweh who takes away the sin of the world! This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’ I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.” John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’ I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of Yahweh.”

Yahweh told John, the baptist how he could recognize the one who baptizes in the Holy Spirit, the one who is the Son of Yahweh. John testified that Yeshua was the Son of Yahweh, who baptizes in the Holy Spirit. Yeshua baptizes in the Holy Spirit on behalf of His Father. In other words in Yahweh ’s name.

‭Matthew 28:19-20 ‬‬

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

This is the way how we serve Yeshua. We make disciples and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The apostles and Paul teaches us to baptize in the name of Yeshua. Were they doing wrong? No! Everything that Yeshua does is in the name of His Father, Yahweh. And Yeshua is full of the Holy Spirit when He does something. The Holy Spirit is acting through Yeshua. So when we baptize in Yeshua’s name we baptizes on behalf of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
