Let Your Light Shine
Matthew 25:1-13
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open up for us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.
The bridegroom is Yeshua, the Son of Yahweh, the Messiah, the King. The bride is the new Jerusalem. And we’re the virgins.
As the virgins are waiting for the bridegroom. So are we waiting for Yeshua our King. He will officially be crowned as King and their will be a big celebration afterwards. This is compared with a wedding. The King is marrying the Kingdom and afterwards is the wedding feast. And we are invited.
We suppose to carry light with us when Yeshua arrives. That’s why we need enough oil. So how we get enough oil? How we can let our light burn long enough?
Olive oil symbolizes the divine presence. Our lights are burning with a divine oil. Oil that comes from Yahweh.
Exodus 30:25
You shall make of these a holy anointing oil, a perfume mixture, the work of a perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.
This anointing oil was and is used to make things and persons holy. You’re put apart for Yahweh, when you are holy.
1 Samuel 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
David was anointed because Yahweh choose him to become king instead of Saul. This means that David became holy. And because he was holy, the Spirit of Yahweh came upon him.
Mark 6:13
And they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.
When we hopeful pray for healing and anoint the sick person we stimulate the healing process. Yeshua in us can heal the sick person if He finds belief in this person. And ofcourse we need to have belief too.
Psalms 141:5
Let the righteous smite me in kindness and reprove me; It is oil upon the head; Do not let my head refuse it, For still my prayer is against their wicked deeds.
Kindness is like oil on the head. It heals wounds inside. It brings peace.
Psalms 133:1-2
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron’s beard, coming down upon the edge of his robes.
To dwell in unity is like oil on the head. It gives peace and joy.
Oil is divine, is holy. Fire that burns on this divine oil is a holy fire. The light from this fire is holy. This divine oil we get from the Holy Spirit when we pray, when we worship and when we study the Bible.
And now we’re going to study more about the light itself.
Light has always been a symbol of holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, grace, hope, and Yahweh’s revelation.
According to tradition, the light of the candles represents the spiritual light of the Torah, illuminating the darkness of the world and bringing peace and harmony to the home. The Thora are the first 5 books of Moses in the old Testament.
Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
We have to be a light in this dark world. This means that we share words of hope to the hopeless people. This hope is find in Yeshua and in the Word of Yahweh. This hope is find in the Messiah and in His Kingdom.
This means also that we help wherever and whenever we can. Sometimes is a small act of love already enough for someone to become hopeful again. We have to try to act like a child of Yahweh, a Kingdom citizen. This way we bring the light of hope from the Kingdom into this dark world.
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Yahweh’s Word is a light. And Yeshua is the living Word of Yahweh, so He is also a light. And Yeshua lives in us. That’s why His light shines through us. This means we’re a light in the darkness of this world.
