Yeshua, the Messiah.

Christ or Messiah means anointed one. Christ is the Greek name from Messiah. While Messiah is the Hebrew name.

With the people of Israel, the ritual anointing with olive oil is a sign of divine election. An 'anointed one' is one who has become a servant of Yahweh. This anointed servant is put apart for Yahweh. This anointed servant is holy.

So the Messiah is the anointed servant of Yahweh. Yahweh chose Him.

The people of Israel had a living hope. Yahweh had promised David that one of His descendants would sit on the throne forever. He would deliver them from the oppressors. He would be the Son of Yahweh and build the house of Yahweh. We believe that the promised Messiah is Yeshua.

In 1 chronicles chapter 17 we can read about this promise.

1 Chronicles 17:11‭-‬14 ‬‬‬‬‬‬

When your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.”

Yeshua of Nazareth saw himself as the long-awaited Messiah. At the beginning of His public life in the synagogue of Nazareth, Yeshua reads a prophetic text from the Bible book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 61:1‭-‬2‬

The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn.

We can find the same text in Luke chapter 4:

Luke 4:18‭-‬19‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

Yeshua has as Messiah 2 tasks. One task He has already done as the Lamb of Yahweh and the other one we are still waiting on. When he comes back, He will come back as the Lion.

His first task was to tell the good news about Yahweh’s Kingdom that was coming. He had to show that He is the Messiah. And He had to die on the cross for our sins. And He had to rise from the dead. And also the new covenant was inaugurate with the blood of Yeshua.

Mark 4:11

And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the Kingdom of Yahweh, but those who are outside get everything in parables.

Yeshua was talking regularly about the Kingdom accompanied by miracles that He was doing.

Acts 2:36

Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”

The Apostle Peter is here proving that Yeshua is the Messiah who had to die and had to arise out of death. To understand the whole proof you have to read acts chapter 2 totally, but we’re not going to do that now. Even the apostles needed the Holy Spirit to know that the Messiah has to die and arise from the dead. They believed that Yeshua was the Messiah that will sit on the throne, but when He died they didn’t understand why this was happening till they got the Holy Spirit.

Mark 16:6

But the man said, “Don’t be afraid. You are looking for Yeshua from Nazareth, the one who was killed on a cross. He has risen from death! He is not here. Look, here is the place they put Him when He was dead.

This man was in real an angel. He tells the women that Yeshua has risen.

The second task will be to fight with the enemies and become victorious. He will end sins. He will unite the people. He will accept the crown and become King. And He will reign His Kingdom. He will give the Kingdom back to His Father and together they will reign the Kingdom forever.

Revelation 17:14

They will make war against the Lamb. But the Lamb will defeat them, because he is Lord of Lords and King of kings. And with him will be his chosen and faithful followers—the people he has called to be his.”

Yeshua is the Lamb who will fight like a lion to free us from the enemies.

Revelation 11:15

The seventh angel blew his trumpet. Then there were loud voices in heaven. The voices said, “The kingdom of the world has now become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah. And he will rule forever and ever.”

Yeshua, the Messiah, will reign together with God over the earth forever and ever. And Jerusalem will be the city where their thrones will be. We end with revelation chapter 22.

Revelation 22:3‭-‬5‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Nothing that Yahweh judges guilty will be there in that city. The throne of Yahweh and the Lamb will be in the city. Yahweh’s servants will worship Him. They will see his face. Yahweh’s name will be written on their foreheads. There will never be night again. People will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun. The Lord Yahweh will give them light. And they will rule like kings forever and ever.
